Notary Public Service Policy
- It is recommended to call the Library to ensure the notary public is available before you visit.
- Service is on a first-come, first-served basis.
- The Notary Public is not an attorney licensed to practice law, and may not give legal advice.
- The notary public does not offer virtual or remote notarizations.
- The person must personally appear and present a valid New York State or other US State Driver’s License or government issued photo I.D. and sign before the notary public.
- Documents in any language other than English cannot be notarized here.
- The notary and the person seeking notarization must be able to communicate directly with each other. Not permitted to make use of a translator in the transaction.
- In accordance with New York State law, certain public or legal documents cannot be copied and notarized. Examples: US birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates, driver’s license, and passports.
- The notary public will not provide service if the person, document, or circumstances of the request raise any issue of authenticity, ambiguity, doubt or uncertainty. In such event the notary public may decline to provide service.
- Please note, the Rockland County Clerk’s Office, located at 1 South Main Street, Suite 100, New City, New York also notarize eligible documents, they can be reached at 845-638-5070.
