The Children’s Room

The Nyack Library Children's Room serves children from birth through fifth grade with books, games, educational resources, and engaging programs designed to inspire learning and a love of reading. Families can enjoy free story times, special events, and a welcoming space supported by knowledgeable staff.

Summer Reading 2026 – Unearth a Story

July 1 – August 14

Join our free Summer Reading Program (SRP) for children ages 4–11 from July 1 through August 14. This year’s theme, Unearth A Story, features dinosaurs, prehistoric adventures, special events, reading challenges, and prizes.

The fun begins on Monday, June 29, with our Kick Off Party featuring David Engel. Registration opens June 1, 2026, at 10:00 AM. Space is limited, so be sure to register early.

Toddler Time

June 5 & June 12 from 11:00am – 11:30am

There is no advanced registration required for this program. Slots will be filled in person on the day of the program on a first come, first serve basis.

For children ages 12 months through 36 months with caregiver.

This program will be filled with simple stories, songs and movement games for you and your active toddler.

The Summer Reading Program (SRP) for children ages 4-11 (entering grades K-5) is a six-week series (July 1 – August 14) of fun and FREE activities that revolve around reading and a chosen theme. Keep track of your reading at home with a special log, and come back to the library for special activities and prizes!

This year’s theme is Unearth A Story, and all of our special events will focus on dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures!

Children ages 2-4 are very welcome to join our Early Literacy Program! You will be asked to complete an activity sheet filled with fun, literacy skill enhancing things to do with your little one. Once complete, please show your sheet to a Children’s Room Staff member to get a free book!
