Laptop, Computer Hardware & Equipment

The Nyack Library is pleased to offer laptops, Kindles and internet hotspots for lending. These are available to be checked out to library cardholders aged 18 or older in good standing.

Laptop policies

Nyack Library laptops are available at the Reference Desk to Nyack and Valley Cottage cardholders aged 18 or older in good standing. Laptops can be checked out for in-library use only.

  • The loan period is two hours on the same day. After two hours, extensions will be given only if no one is waiting.
  • If a computer is taken outside the library, it ceases to function.
  • Laptops must be borrowed from and returned to the Reference Desk only. They cannot be put in the book drop.
  • A late fee of $10 per day, up to the cost of the laptop ($400), will be imposed for every day the laptop is not returned to the Reference Desk, or is taken outside the library.
  • Lost or damaged laptops will result in the patron’s account being charged for a replacement equal to the total value of the device.
  • Failure to abide by these regulations may result in forfeiture of borrowing privileges for laptops.

Laptop chargers and locks can also be borrowed from the Reference Desk.

Kindle policies

Nyack Library Kindles are available at the Circulation Desk to Nyack and Valley Cottage cardholders aged 18 or older in good standing.

  • The loan period is two weeks, with one renewal.
  • Kindles cannot be reserved and are loaned on a first-come first-served basis.
  • We have pre-loaded Kindles available for loan. No downloading is needed. A library patron can request a book to be added to a library Kindle prior to checkout.
  • Each Kindle has dozens of titles and will be updated every month with additional best-selling titles.
  • At least one Kindle is devoted to only children’s titles.
  • Please note that we cannot transfer these titles to personal Kindles.
  • Overdue fines for Kindles are $1 a day with a $10 maximum fine.

Hotspot policies

Nyack Library WiFi hotspots are available at the Circulation Desk to Nyack and Valley Cottage cardholders aged 18 or older in good standing. Only one hotspot per person per library.

  • The loan period is one week.
  • Hotspots cannot be reserved or renewed. After return, another hotspot may not be checked out for 24 hours.
  • Hotspots must be returned to the Circulation Desk and cannot be put in the book drop.
  • Overdue fines for hotspots are $10 a day with a maximum fine of $100.
  • Lost or damaged hotspots will result in the patron’s account being charged for a replacement equal to the total value of the device.
  • Failure to abide by these regulations may result in forfeiture of borrowing privileges for hotspots.
  • Nyack Library is not responsible for information accessed using this device or for personal information shared over the internet. Hotspot users are encouraged to follow safe internet practices. The following behaviors may result in the suspension of hotspot privileges and/or criminal prosecution: a) violating Nyack Library’s Internet Use Policy and b) use of the internet in any way which violates federal, state, or municipal laws.
