The Nyack Library loans free WiFi hotspots to Nyack or Valley Cottage Library cardholders ages 18 and up in good standing. Only one hotspot per person per library.
- Hotspots cannot be reserved or renewed. After returning, another hotspot may not be checked out for 24 hours.
- There is a 7-day loan period.
- Overdue fines for hotspots are $10 per day, with a maximum of $100.
- Hotspots must be returned to the Circulation Desk and cannot be put in the book drop.
R850 Mobile Hotspot Quick Instructions
To Enable Hotspot
- Press and hold the Power button until the LCD screen displays Welcome.
- Press the Power button once to view the Wi-Fi name, and twice to obtain the Wi-Fi password. The Wi-Fi name and password are also printed on the top of the hotspot.
To Turn Off Hotspot (always turn off when not in use)
- Press and hold the Power button until the LCD screen displays Goodbye.
To Charge Hotspot
- Check the battery icon on the LCD screen to confirm whether the hotspot is fully charged. Battery life is approximately 8 to 10 hours.
- If the battery is low, plug the charger cable into the hotspot and then into a wall outlet. Charging takes approximately 3 hours.
- IMPORTANT: Do not leave the hotspot plugged into the outlet or overcharge the device.
- Remove from the outlet once it is fully charged.
Tips to Maximize Internet Browsing Speed
- Place the hotspot where the signal strength is strongest, such as near a window.
- Keep the hotspot at least 4 to 6 feet away from electrical devices such as cell phones, cordless phones, TVs, and microwaves.
- Keep the hotspot in a clear, open space for the best signal reception.
- Connect only the necessary number of devices to the hotspot.
- Power off the hotspot when it is not being used.
Connect Windows PC
- On your PC, move the cursor to the upper-right or lower-right corner and select the WLAN icon.
- Select the hotspot name from the list and click Connect.
- Enter the Wi-Fi password, then click Next.
Connect the Mac Computer
- On your Mac, open the Apple menu and select System Preferences, then Network.
- Click Wi-Fi and select Turn Wi-Fi On.
- Select the hotspot name from the Network Name drop-down list.
- Enter the Wi-Fi password in the Password field, check Remember this network, and click Join.
Connect an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch
- Select Settings, then Wi-Fi.
- Select Turn on Wi-Fi.
- From the Choose a Network list, tap the hotspot name.
- Enter the Wi-Fi password, then tap Join.
Connect an Android Device
- On your Android device, from the home screen, select Menu, then Settings.
- Tap Wi-Fi.
- Use the Wi-Fi slider to turn Wi-Fi on.
- Select the hotspot name from the list and tap Connect.
- Enter the Wi-Fi password, then tap Connect.
