lit by the river 2026Nyack Library invites writers from our service area to submit original, unpublished work for inclusion in Lit by the River 2026, an anthology celebrating the literary voices of our community.

Submission Deadline: August 1, 2026

Who Can Submit?

Eligible writers must reside in or have a strong connection to one of the following communities:

  • Nyack
  • South Nyack
  • Upper Nyack
  • Central Nyack
  • Valley Cottage
  • Grand View-on-Hudson

Categories:

Fiction

  • 750 to 900 words
  • Original, unpublished work only

Nonfiction

  • 750 to 900 words
  • Original, unpublished work only

Memoir

  • 750 to 900 words
  • Original, unpublished work only

Poetry

  • 3 to 5 poems
  • One poem per page in a single Microsoft Word document
  • Total submission may not exceed 5 pages
  • Original, unpublished work only

Submission Requirements

Please review the following requirements before submitting your work:

  • Submit your work as a single Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx).
  • Submit your work using the form below or email your submission to litbytheriver@nyacklibrary.org.
  • Include the genre (“Fiction,” “Nonfiction,” “Memoir,” or “Poetry”) in the subject line of your email.
  • Submissions must be the author’s own original work.
  • Works generated wholly or substantially by artificial intelligence (AI) are not eligible for consideration.
  • Teens aged 13 and older may submit work with a guardian’s permission.

Simultaneous Submissions

Simultaneous submissions are welcome.

If your work is accepted for publication elsewhere after submission, please notify us at litbytheriver@nyacklibrary.org.

Review Process

Please do not contact the library regarding the status of your submission before the August 1 deadline.

Writers will be contacted after submissions have been reviewed. We will notify you if your work is accepted or if we would like to discuss editorial revisions prior to publication.
